Assessing Climate Physical Risks in the Power Sector in India

The India Transition Finance Programme (ITFP) at the Oxford Sustainable Finance Group (OxSFG), is hosting a webinar on Assessing Climate Physical Risks in the Power Sector in India. Taking place during 4:00-5:00pm IST on Thursday November 6, 2025.

Climate risks pose a significant threat to the stability of the financial system. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) is developing disclosure frameworks on climate financial risks, with the draft guidelines published in December 2024. Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) is exploring incorporation of climate financial risks into the evolving Business Responsibility and Sustainability Reporting (BRSR) framework.

In this webinar, we will focus on cutting edge research on physical financial risks in the power sector in India, with implications for the financial economy. We will examine flood risks at various levels of granularity, including asset-, firm-, and portfolio-level. We will show that these risks are significant depending on technology and location. We will also explore the role of adaptation in mitigating these risks.

Speakers include:

The webinar is organised as part of ITFP. The ITFP was launched by the Oxford Sustainable Finance Group in July 2025 and aims to play a leading role in defining aspects of transition finance in India. The cutting-edge research at ITFP will be shared regularly via webinars and in-person workshops.
