In her 2023 Prize citation the judging panel highlighted Schapiro’s instrumental leadership in establishing the new global architecture for sustainability reporting. She led the development of the Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD) and the Sustainability Accounting Standards Board (SASB), the two fundamental pillars of the International Sustainability Standards Board (ISSB).

Schapiro is Vice Chair for Global Public Policy of Bloomberg L.P., Vice Chair of the Glasgow Financial Alliance for Net Zero (GFANZ), and Chair of the Climate Data Steering Committee (CDSC). She is also former Chair of the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).

Schapiro shared her thanks saying,

“It’s an honour to be here in one of the world’s great seats of learning. Universities are the greatest institutions we have for driving forward our understanding of the world around us and expanding the frontier of what it is possible for us as humans to achieve.”

Reflecting on her own career, she shared insights from her most recent years focusing on climate change and the era of Anthropocene, the path this world is on, and the tools that have been developed to bend the arc of history, including policy changes that need to be built on trust and effective communication.
